"We adhere to no body or organization but the church of God."

Confession

We confess, with our Christian brothers and sisters around the world and through two millennia, that Jesus of Nazareth is Lord. We worship a person, not a set of beliefs — our beliefs are simply helpful ways of communicating our commitment to him.

We trust the infallible witness of the Bible. It is our authority in all matters of faith and practice. We rely on it for guidance on how to live as a people called by God.

We honor the church’s earliest affirmations of faith (the Apostle’s and Nicene Creeds — see below) inasmuch as they are useful in interpreting the Bible. For instance, these statements clarify the doctrine of the Trinity — a teaching we find indispensable to faithful discipleship.

_D802243Nicene Creed
We believe in one God,
the Father, the Almighty,
maker of heaven and earth,
of all that is, seen and unseen.
We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ,
the only Son of God,
eternally begotten of the Father,
God from God, Light from Light,
true God from true God,
begotten, not made,
of one Being with the Father.
Through him all things were made.
For us and for our salvation
he came down from heaven:
by the power of the Holy Spirit
he became incarnate from the Virgin Mary,
and was made man.
For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate;
he suffered death and was buried.
On the third day he rose again
in accordance with the Scriptures;
he ascended into heaven
and is seated at the right hand of the Father.
He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead,
and his kingdom will have no end.
We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life,
who proceeds from the Father and the Son.
With the Father and the Son he is worshiped and glorified.
He has spoken through the Prophets.
We believe in one holy catholic and apostolic Church.
We acknowledge one baptism for the forgiveness of sins.
We look for the resurrection of the dead,
and the life of the world to come. Amen.

Affiliation

We are affiliated with the Church of God (Anderson, Indiana).

We, like several other distinct movements who took the same name, call ourselves “Church of God” because we firmly hold to the unity of Christ’s Body across social, economic, racial, national (you name it) lines. We believe that followers of Christ are already part of one Body, and we grieve the reality that sects or denominations within that Body tend more toward divisiveness than rich diversity.

Leadership

Congregation

We are a church that seeks to make major decisions together, under the authority of Christ and the guidance of the Holy Spirit. As a congregation we meet several times in a year to discern together where God is leading us.

Council, Pastor, and Staff

The church council and pastor provide primary leadership in the church by stewarding the body’s vision and resources. In addition, the pastor and staff serve by coordinating the congregation’s formation and care.
